Choosing A Donor From An Internal Egg Donor Program or An Independent Donor Agency

Working with an agency can open a world of possibilities unavailable to you through your clinic’s internal donor program.  Most internal programs are limited to a small group of donors with a waiting period to work with one of them.  Some internal programs don’t allow you to choose a donor they choice a donor for you.  Often you are not permitted to view pictures of the donor and receive only minimal information regarding her background.

When working with an agency in most cases you can see pictures and view the donor’s full profile prior to making a decision.  You can usually find a donor in a relatively short period of time.  With Donor Concierge you should be able to find a donor with in a week.  You have a broad choice of donors who meet your criteria and are currently available.  I don’t recommend putting your name on a waiting list to work with a donor.  There are so many options available, even if you are looking for a hard to find donor.  A donor may feel she will be willing to do another cycle in the future but there are no guarantees.  Donors don’t work for agencies or clinics they are completely independent.  They have their own lives and goals that may take them in a different direction.

I recommend choosing your top 3-5 candidates and contact the agency to verify their availability, ask any questions regarding your donor that need clarification and reserve the donor for your cycle. Don’t make the mistake of falling too much in love with any particular donor where you become fixated on working only with her.  Trust fate, if your first choice is no longer available move on to your second choice and so on.

This same philosophy holds true regarding working with a surrogate.  When working with Donor Concierge we can locate a number of available surrogates from a variety of reliable surrogacy programs.   Don’t be discouraged when one agency tells you the waiting time for a surrogate is 3-6 months.  There are surrogates waiting to be matched if you know where to look. Donor Concierge has close working relationships with at least 25 surrogacy programs that have proved to be very accommodating.
