Many hopeful parents come to Georgia to embark on their egg donation or fertility journey thanks to the ease of travel, diversity, and high-quality fertility services in the area.
The state of Georgia is home to fertility-friendly legislation regarding legal parentage and IVF procedures for hopeful parents, making it a popular state to pursue egg donation and fertility treatments. There is a multitude of top-rated, trusted fertility practitioners in Georgia who can help along your egg donation journey. These top fertility lawyers, reproductive endocrinologists and more are another reason why many hopeful parents pursue egg donation in Georgia.
The diverse population in Georgia also ensures that families of all backgrounds will have a great advantage in finding a local Georgia egg donor who fits their ethnic background or other preferences. Donor Concierge can help you find the Georgia donor who is the holistic fit for your unique family, whether you are searching for a hard-to-find egg donor or an egg donor with specific qualities like college-educated egg donors, Jewish egg donors, and more.
How Egg Donors Are Screened in Georgia
For egg donor screening, agencies and other entities in the state of Georgia follow the standards, guidance, and other practices that govern egg donation in the United States, which are set forth for egg donor agencies, clinics and fertility practitioners by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). These encompass both legal requirements and industry-wide standards for fertility treatments.
The FDA requirements that Georgia egg donor agencies and fertility clinics follow include requirements of health examinations, disease screening and more prior to approval for donation. ASRM also requires that egg donors complete a series of steps including counseling for psychoeducational purposes, providing full medical history, and genetic screening. Other ASRM guidances include age restrictions (between 21 and 34 years of age), good health, pelvic ultrasound, and more. Good mental health and a true understanding of the egg donation process is also stressed as important considerations for all egg donors.
The Donor Concierge Egg Donation Process for Intended Parents in Georgia
Step 1. Consultation and Intake
Donor Concierge begins the egg donor search through a simple, free consultation. During this consultation, you will speak with a case manager about your needs and Donor Concierge’s services. You will be able to provide information about your goals, your fertility journey up to this point, and the preferences you have, such as the location of your Georgia egg donor. Upon completing the consultation, you will have the option to work with Donor Concierge by filling in the intake form and making a payment.
Step 2. The Egg Donor Search Process
Next, you will begin to work with a dedicated Donor Concierge case manager on your egg donor search. This is where you will dive deeper into the qualities and criteria you are hoping to find in your egg donor. Your case manager will use your preferences, Donor Concierge’s proprietary search system, and our network of top fertility partners to hone in on all the egg candidates who match your criteria. For example, in the Georgia egg donor search, your case manager may conduct a national search of egg donors willing to travel to Georgia or focus specifically on Georgia egg donor candidates. Your case manager will handle all of the logistics involved in coordinating with agencies, clinics, and screening needs. They will send you profiles to review in your custom egg donor portfolio. This will typically take two weeks, while you review egg donor options.
Step 3. Reserving Your Egg Donor
After selecting your egg donor with Donor Concierge, you will work with the egg donor agency on next steps. This will involve medical and legal coordination, managed by your fertility team and the egg donor agency. Donor Concierge is happy to connect you with trusted, expert reproductive attorneys, clinics, and more who can help you through the complexities of the egg donor process.
Step 4. The Egg Donation Cycle
Once all of the contractual and medical details are finalized, the medical process will begin.
Your fertility clinic will schedule an appointment for your egg donor to visit the clinic and have her physical, genetic, and psychological evaluations completed. Next, your egg donor will start medications to suppress her menstrual cycle, and prepare her body for the injections that will stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs.
These hormone injections are taken by the egg donor in order to stimulate their ovaries into producing additional mature eggs than during a typical cycle, and are administered by the donor herself over 10 to 12 days. Your egg donor will be monitored during this period by a fertility practitioner, ensuring the hormones are working properly and safely.
After the eggs have matured, the egg donor will take the “trigger” shot, signaling the ovaries to release the eggs. They will be retrieved within 36 hours from this shot, typically at your fertility clinic. For the egg retrieval process, your egg donor will be under mild sedation while her eggs are extracted, placed in a petri dish, and fertilized. Fertilization may occur in a petri dish or with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), in which the sperm is injected into the ovum directly.
The embryos will be left for five days and monitored for growth. If you are doing a fresh embryo transfer, the recipient (you or your gestational carrier) will prepare to receive the fertilized embryo at the timing decided by you, your reproductive endocrinologist, and fertility team. More commonly, embryos created are frozen and tested, available for a future frozen embryo transfer at the desired time.
