Step 1. Consultation and Intake

Step 2. The Egg Donor Search Process

After you complete your intake, your Donor Concierge case manager will work with you closely to gain a deep understanding of your egg donor preferences and family-building goals. Step 4. The Egg Donation Cycle

Once the legal process is complete, the egg donor will undergo her medical and mental health screenings. After passing those, she’ll start medications to suppress her menstrual cycle and prepare her body for ovary stimulation.

The egg donor will self-inject hormones for 10 to 12 days to increase the number of viable eggs donated. Throughout this process, she’ll be monitored regularly by a doctor. Once her eggs are mature, she’ll take what’s called a “trigger” shot of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone that signals to the ovaries to release the eggs. The eggs will then be retrieved 36 hours later.

During the egg retrieval procedure, the donor is put under mild sedation while the doctor locates the mature eggs using an ultrasound wand. The eggs are then gently extracted using an aspirating needle and combined in a petri dish with sperm for fertilization. In some cases, a fertility specialist may perform an intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where they’ll use a tiny needle to penetrate through the egg’s shell and inject the sperm directly into the ovum’s center.

If you opt for a fresh egg donor cycle, the recipient’s uterus will be prepared to receive the fertilized embryo. However, many people choose to have a frozen embryo transfer, which is when the embryo is frozen five days after fertilization and transferred to the uterus at a later date.
