The benefits of finding an egg donor in California
As one of the most assisted reproduction-friendly states in the country, California is a popular destination for intended parents. Expect to find:
-
Carefully screened, high-quality egg donors who meet your criteria and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) guidelines
-
A diverse range of donors, thanks to California’s size and demographics
-
Access to top fertility clinics, trusted reproductive attorneys, and supportive resources to guide you every step of the way

How California screens egg donors
The California donor agencies vetted by Donor Concierge adhere to the strict standards and guidelines established by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the ASRM, and our in-house team of fertility experts.
The FDA requires that egg donors undergo a physical examination and a screening for infectious diseases. At the same time, the ASRM recommends additional screening measures, including psychoeducational counseling, genetic testing, and a complete medical history.
The ASRM’s recommendations also include that donors:
Be between the ages of 21 and 34
Have good physical health, which is determined through a physical exam, including a pelvic ultrasound
Undergo a psychological evaluation and counseling to ensure that the egg donor understands her role in the family-building process and is emotionally and mentally stable
Navigating California
egg donor costs
Egg donor costs vary on several factors, including your choice of donor, your location, and your fertility clinic. On average, these costs fall between $30,000 to $65,000 and include payment for:
Donor agency fees
Donor compensation
Medical processes, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), ICSI, and frozen embryo transfer
Legal fees
Travel and other expenses
Navigating the costs associated with a donor journey can feel overwhelming. However, there are options available to help make the process more affordable, including fertility treatment loans and grants.

Egg Donation FAQs
What is the difference between a fresh and frozen egg donation cycle?
The primary difference between fresh and frozen egg donation cycles is the need to synchronize the menstrual cycles of the egg donor and recipient. In a fresh egg donation cycle, the egg donor and recipient’s cycles are synchronized to facilitate the quick transfer of a fertilized embryo into the recipient’s uterus. In a frozen egg donation cycle, the eggs are retrieved and cryopreserved for later use. Once ready, the frozen eggs are thawed, fertilized, and prepared for IVF.
Will my baby look like me if I use a donor egg?
We do our best to match you with donors who look like they could be a part of your extended family. During the Donor Concierge intake process, you share pictures of yourself, your partner, and your family with your case manager, so they can take your physical appearance into account when curating potential donors. While no one can guarantee what a baby will look like (not even families conceiving through traditional means), our team will prioritize matching you with donors who bear a resemblance to you.
Why would someone need an egg donor?
Egg donation is often the path to parenthood for couples facing infertility, same-sex male couples, and women who have medical conditions that impact their reproductive health.
What are the chances of pregnancy with donor eggs?
According to the preliminary 2023 report from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), 36.0% of cycles involving fresh donor eggs resulted in a live birth, and 36.5% of frozen cycles resulted in a live birth. Please note that it’s common for intended parents to go through multiple embryo transfer cycles before achieving a successful pregnancy.
Is it hard to bond with your baby when you use donor eggs?
There is no scientific evidence showing that using donor eggs makes it more difficult for a mother to bond with her newborn. Bonding is shaped by many different factors unrelated to genetics, including hormonal changes during pregnancy, emotional connection, parenting experiences, and social support.
