Single Mother Sperm Donation and Surrogacy: Tanya’s Story
I always knew I wanted to have a family and have a traditional family structure. I pushed it off for a long time, waiting for the right time, before deciding to have a child as a single mother. Because of some medical conditions, surrogacy was the way for me. Even though this wasn’t what I originally pictured, I realized that through surrogacy, I could realize my dreams of a family.
I found Donor Concierge through a web search. I think that my experience was great, especially compared to friends’ fertility stories that I've heard since then. Finding a sperm donor went very smoothly and my surrogacy search experience was straightforward. I matched with my surrogate in an extremely short amount of time, and everything went really well with her.
I think it's hard to feel grateful on an everyday basis. But I know how lucky I was, and I am incredibly grateful. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day of life, but I think I had such a lucky, incredibly swift journey.
Looking back, I had this whole crazy year where I did three additional IVF cycles to try to retrieve more eggs. But I was “beyond the fertility cliff” as they say, meaning, I knew there was no stopping me. It was a very intense year, but I'm very happy I did it. I feel very lucky that I went through the journey the way I did, especially with COVID happening when it did. Going through Donor Concierge was really the right decision. Finding my surrogate took maybe a couple of weeks, and I'm really grateful for the parts that went smoothly. And I'm very happy with my life now.
Just having him, this incredible little being, has brought so much joy in my life. I think now my only worry now is what happens when my son becomes older and he’s not as cuddly and doesn't want to hang out with me all the time!
