Surrogacy Journey: Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra welcome baby via surrogacy
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra announced that they have welcomed a child via surrogacy!
The couple shared the news in a joint statement via social media, saying: “We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”
Jonas, 29, and Chopra, 39, made headlines with their international wedding ceremonies in 2018, but media outlets have been inquiring about the couple's plans for marriage and children since the beginning.
Jonas diffused the pressure of these questions in an interview with People, saying, “Let us be married first for a while before we have to make all these big decisions. We’re in our honeymoon period right now and we will be for a very long time.”
Whether they had an early start planning a pregnancy via gestational carrier, or faced fertility struggles before their surrogate search, we greatly admire the couple for gracefully handling these questions. Celebrities feel the same pressure to conceive that many of us do, and media speculation about pregnancy is common. (We all know not to ask each other "So, when are you having kids?" right?)
Priyanka Chopra opened up about her family goals early on, and her response is a great one for anyone fielding these questions from friends or family. “I am a very live in the today, maximum 'live in the next two months,' kind of person,” Chopra told People. “But 10 years, I definitely want to have kids."
She dropped a few clues on their family-building plans, continuing, "that is, it’s going to happen in the next 10 years. Well, hopefully earlier than that. I’m very fond of children and I want to be able to do that.”
Shortly after their whirlwind international wedding ceremonies, Chopra confirmed this dream once more. "We definitely want kids, and when the time is right, it will happen."
We are so happy to learn that the couple's family-building journey, which appears to have been years in the making, has been realized. We also truly applaud these two for opening up about the reality of their surrogacy journey. Transparency in family building is important, and the use of gestational surrogacy is growing every year. We know that Priyanka and Nick's openness will be encouraging many who are struggling to conceive and considering surrogate pregnancy.
